An evaluation of silver-oxide button cell recycling (2000)

Silver-oxide batteries are commonly used in watches, calculators and other items but little research has been conducted on the recycling schemes available for these batteries. This study evaluates silver-oxide button cell recycling practices in the UK. The report details the results of a survey of jewellery retailers that collect watch batteries brought in by customers for replacement and then goes on to estimate quantities that are recycled nationally. The report describes the recovery system for silver-oxide batteries, the reasons for its success and some implications for developing more comprehensive battery recycling schemes.
