The next WEEECAF meeting has now been confirmed for Wednesday 14th April. This will include a site visit to Viridor's WEEE AATF (their plant for fridges, CRTs and small domestic appliances) in St. Helens, Merseyside. NHHWF Site Visits 2009

Members of the forum enjoyed an exciting and interesting visit in September to Minosus - Veolia's salt mine storage facility for hazardous waste. Read all about the visit here.

We are still hoping to visit Global Renewables' innovative new waste treatment facility in Lancashire, SITA's energy from waste plant in Tees Valley, and Veolia's high temperature incinerator in Ellesmere Port over the next few months.

 The NHHWF spring 2007 seminar “Domestic social responsibility – encouraging proper disposal of HHW” explored communications and enforcement issues.

The event included presentations from leading experts involved in communicating with the public on waste issues and enforcing controls on illegal disposal of waste, and was held on 14 March at Leeds Town Hall.

NHHWF summer 2006 seminar - Hazardous waste reduction and disposal: finding solutions for SMEs, 6 July 2006, Said Business School, Oxford

 

This event focussed on preventing, reducing and disposing of hazardous waste generated by small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and explored:

 

  • HHW issues in the waste strategy consultation
  • the HAZRED project, an Environment Agency led project which aims to help SMEs prevent and reduce their production of hazardous wastes
